Andrew Boghen is Professor of Biology at the Univesité de Moncton (UdeM). Over the years, he served as Department Chair, Director of the Environmental Sciences Research Centre and more recently as Associate V-P and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research. Dr. Boghen undertook graduate studies in parasitology at McGill University and later obtained a PhD in biology from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada. He has taught a wide number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including aquaculture, environmental science, parasitology and integrated coastal zone management. Over the years, he has focused his research interests on ecophysiology of invertebrates, parasitic diseases of aquatic organisms, aquaculture and integrated coastal zone management.

Dr. Boghen places special importance on creating working alliances and partnerships between university scientists, communities, government agencies and the private sector. In the 90s, Dr. Boghen participated in the establishment of The Federal Aquaculture Development Strategy for Canada. He later coordinated a comprehensive, pilot-scale, oyster-monitoring program in the province of New Brunswick (NB). The latter was a cooperative effort between UdeM scientists and oyster growers, one that served as a model for developing a long-term monitoring strategy for the shellfish industry in NB. More recently, Dr. Boghen directed a multi-community, multi-disciplinary, environment and resource enhancement program in Eastern NB. This brought together university and government experts and ensured close working arrangements with voluntary organizations, coastal towns and aboriginal communities.

Dr. Boghen participated in the establishment of the Aquaculture Association of Canada (AAC) in 1981 and in 2000 he served as President of this organization. He has published extensively in his areas of interest and presented many talks at national and international conferences. Dr. Boghen is Editor of the widely acclaimed book - Cold-Water Aquaculture in Atlantic Canada, a text that has become an important reference for Canadian universities and colleges offering aquaculture and fisheries programs as part of their curricula.
