Truong Huu Chi


Professor Truong Huu Chi graduated as an engineer from the Hanoi University of Technology in 1979 and completed his doctoral studies in engineering in 1990 at the Chemnitz Technical University in Germany. He has been working at the Institute for Machinery and Industrial Instruments (IMI) in various positions before becoming its General Director in 1997. He is presently Group Chairman of the IMI Holding, the first Science and Technology Holding in Vietnam. He is also a member of the National Council for Science and Technology Policy.

Professor Chi was one of the first scientists who has successfully set the foundation for research and development and applications of mechatronics in Vietnam. Research in high technology conducted at IMI was translated into industrial production and the Institute was able to establish 13 subsidiary companies. Many technologies from Europe and USA were transferred to Vietnam through IMI. Professor Chi also participated into many ministerial and national R&D projects, working on technology products that could meet various needs of the market. Several Ph.D. candidates have worked under his supervision.

Professor Chi has been the recipient of numerous national S&T awards, including the Ho Chi Minh Science & Technology Prize awarded in 2005, the highest national recognition for science and technology realizations.
